I laughed in the hope of lightening his sour mood. “Why’s that?

I’m using the wrong deodorant or something?” I didn’t know if Cole was shy or if he had a bad case of under-developed people skills, but I liked him enough to want to stick around for a bit and find out.

If the guy planned to confuse me, he’d just won first prize.

His head shot up. “Why would you think that?”

I reached across the table and touched his hand. “You’re saying you don’t?”
